Enrique Rivera (b. 1988, Ponce, Puerto Rico) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice brings together contemporary painting, structural design, and psychological insight. With academic training spanning civil engineering, fine arts, and clinical psychology, Rivera approaches art through a distinctive interdisciplinary lens, creating works that are both intellectually grounded and emotionally evocative.

His paintings extend beyond the purely visual, incorporating acrylic skins, textiles, and sculptural elements to create richly tactile, dimensional surfaces that invite close and sustained engagement. These “material hugs,” as Rivera describes them, become intimate expressions of human connection, vulnerability, healing, and emotional resilience.

Since 2012, Rivera’s work has been featured in more than thirty exhibitions throughout Puerto Rico, including biennials and presentations at institutional venues such as the Museo de Arte Francisco Oller, the Senatorial Gallery of Puerto Rican Art, and the Ponce Public Library. His solo exhibitions at the Ponce History Museum and the Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores in San Juan represent significant milestones in the development of a practice defined by conceptual depth and material experimentation.

Rivera has received multiple awards and public grants in recognition of his artistic practice. His work is distinguished by its narrative depth, innovative exploration of materials, and ability to translate complex emotional experiences into compelling visual and tactile forms.
