Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1968, Edwin Guevárez is a Puerto Rican painter and mixed-media artist whose work is distinguished by its expressive figurative language, vibrant color, and rich symbolic imagery. He began his artistic training at the Liga de Arte de San Juan under the guidance of Carmelo Sobrino and later continued his studies with Ramiro Pazmiño and Carlos Collazo. Guevárez also studied Graphic Arts at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, painting at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, and furthered his education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Over the course of his career, Guevárez has developed a distinctive visual language that explores themes of identity, spirituality, memory, and the human condition. His paintings combine expressive brushwork with elements of popular culture, religious iconography, and personal symbolism, creating narratives that are at once introspective, playful, and socially resonant. His celebrated Hábitos Dulces series exemplifies this approach, reinterpreting traditional sacred imagery through a contemporary perspective infused with humor, nostalgia, and cultural commentary.

Guevárez’s work is represented in numerous private and institutional collections in Puerto Rico and abroad, and he is recognized as one of the leading contemporary voices in Puerto Rican figurative painting.
